Kuwait: Now
Kuwait: Now is a living atmospheric portrait of Kuwait City, translating the city’s current environmental conditions into a continuously shifting image. Aerial photographs of the city form the landscape, and the time of day, calculated from solar elevation, decides which one appears, blending between daytime, dusk, and night as the light changes. Live model data then shapes the atmosphere over it: wind drives the direction and speed of drifting particles, temperature and sunlight raise a heat shimmer along the horizon, and aerosol levels thicken or thin the haze. A 24-hour replay lets viewers scrub back through the day’s temperature, humidity, wind, and air quality, and the piece is available in both English and Arabic.
Research Question
Can a city’s invisible atmosphere, its heat, wind, haze, and air quality, be rendered as a living portrait rather than a weather readout, so that environmental data is felt as mood and light instead of read as numbers?
